DFL Economic Report 23-24

The image you've provided appears to be a composite of two separate photographs placed side by side. On the left, there is an action shot from a football (soccer) match, featuring a player in mid-air with a defensive posture as they intercept the ball, and another one on the ground, presumably in a shooting or dribbling situation.
On the right, there's a different scene, which seems to be edited into the image. It shows two people engaged in what looks like a street fight or altercation of some sort. The person on top is lying face downwards while another person seems to be falling backwards or sideways, away from themselves, indicating motion and action, and possibly indicating the individual has fallen or been pushed off their feet.
The juxtaposition creates a humorous or ironic contrast as the left image is typical of sports coverage showing a clash during a game of soccer, while the right image seems to suggest a very different type of conflict involving people with no visible protective gear, which would be unusual and potentially dangerous in the context of a sports event. The combination is likely meant to be comical or metaphorical, but without more context, it's hard to determine the intended message or purpose behind placing these images together.

Ratio of payroll costs for match operations to total revenue

With €1.67 billion in payroll costs, the Bundesliga clubs paid their players and coaches more in the 2023-24 season than ever before in the league’s history. Salaries increased by €57.8 million or 3.6 per cent compared to the previous season. At the same time, however, the Bundesliga’s total revenue rose by €349.5 million, causing the payroll cost ratio, which compares expenditure on players and coaches to the clubs’ income, to fall by a further 1.4 percentage points to 34.9 per cent. In the 2020/21 season, the payroll cost ratio was still 45.1 per cent, which means it has been reduced by 10.2 percentage points within three years.
